Activity Excel Utility Using P6 EPPM Web Services

P6 EPPM Web Services is a great way of integrating external systems with P6 EPPM application. Activity excel utility allows reading and writing data to Oracle Primavera P6 EPPM using P6 EPPM Web Services.

Activity excel utility allow user to

Clear All Data - removes data from all worksheets

Read – Read or download data from P6 EPPM using Web Services

Modify – Create, Update or Delete the data for the corresponding business object

Activity Details allows creating new activity and maintaining existing activity data. CRUD flag is used to identify the operation to be performed.

“C” – Create, “U” – Update, “D” – Delete, “R” – Read.

Activity data is downloaded with CRUD flag as “R”. 

Activity attributes like Duration Type, % Complete Type, etc. use same set of values as in the application

Activity Relationship can be created and updated within excel utility. Relationship Type has a predefined set of values as used in application - Task Dependent, Resource Dependent, Level of Effort, Start Milestone, Finish Milestone, WBS Summary

Activity Code Assignment allow user to assign activity code to activities. Both global and project specific activity codes can be assigned to activities.  

Resource Assignment allow user to assign resource/role to activities. This can be used to maintain resource assignment for activities of the project.

WBS Excel Utility Using P6 EPPM Web Services

WBS excel utility allows maintaining WBS hierarchy for a project in Oracle Primavera P6 EPPM.

User login to the WBS excel utility using P6 EPPM application login. P6 EPPM Web Services URL need to be entered in Host. User must have access to P6 EPPM Web Services to be able to use the utility.

User access determines the projects that will be available to user in excel for update. After selecting the project, WBS hierarchy can be downloaded for the project. If no hierarchy is available in P6 EPPM, it can be developed in excel utility and sent to P6 EPPM to update the project.

Update Project List – allow to download list of project based on user access.

Select Project drop down list allows user to select a project for review and maintain WBS

Read – allow user to download WBS hierarchy for the selected project

Modify – allows user to synchronize modified WBS hierarchy in excel utility with P6 EPPM application.

Dictionary Excel Utility Using P6 EPPM Web Services

Can Dictionary excel utility based on P6 EPPM Web Services replace Dictionary.xls P6 SDK? Lets find it out.

Dictionary excel utility allows reading and writing data to P6 EPPM using P6 EPPM Web Services. Supported business objects are shown in the screenshot below.

When the data is downloaded all resources will have CRUD flag as “R”

Resource Curve can be created and updated within excel utility including updating values for the curve.

User information includes global profile which can be modified in excel utility. Module access information is read only and for information purpose only.

Cost Account hierarchy can be developed in the excel utility as well.

User interface for all other worksheets are similar to the one shown above. Data can be read and maintained offline in this excel utility and synchronized with the application after it is finalized.

Primavera P6 EPPM - Replace SDK with P6 EPPM Web Services

*As of version 18.8 the Primavera P6 SDK has been removed. The SDK is a 32-bit technology; 32-bit operating systems and 32-bit applications are no longer supported for P6 version 18.

Primavera P6 EPPM web services is good alternative to P6 SDK for enterprise customers using P6 EPPM. P6 EPPM web services is an integration technology that extends P6 business objects and functionality. It is based on open standards including SOAP, XML and WSDL.

This article describes a way to utilize Primavera P6 web services with Microsoft excel to maintain enterprise and project data both online and offline.

 

P6 EPPM web services is utilized in the excel utility to import/export data, in and out of Oracle Primavera P6 EPPM. Access to data is based on P6 EPPM application user login and uses username token authentication. User must have P6 web services access to use excel utility. P6 EPPM business rules are automatically taken care of when using P6 EPPM web services.

Microsoft excel is a great way of maintaining large volume of data, all at one place and across multiple environments like production and non-production. This utility can be used across multiple releases of Oracle Primavera P6 EPPM for both on-premises and P6 EPPM cloud.

No additional installation is required. Enter application username, password and URL of P6 EPPM web services and you are ready to use the product. Username, Password or P6 web services URL is not stored anywhere in excel internally. Once these fields are cleared and excel is saved, this information cannot be retrieved. This makes it safe to share among users for offline use and maintaining data when there are multiple users maintaining different data elements.

WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) excel utility allow users to download WBS hierarchy for a project. For a new project complete WBS hierarchy can be developed in excel. For existing project it can be downloaded and maintained in excel and uploaded back to P6 EPPM. WBS elements can be Created, Updated or Deleted as required using excel utility. WBS element can be moved from one parent node to another using the excel utility.

Activity excel utility allow users to download activities and related information for a project. Related information like resource assignment, activity code assignment, UDF among others can be easily maintained using this excel utility.
